Our partner Sylvain Poitras lectured today on medical device law to students at EPFL, including on the impacts of the current EU-Switzerland pickle and on how regulators have faced the covid19 pandemic.
About 400 IP professionals gathered in the Landmark Hotel in Bangkok. The opening ceremony included many IP dignitaries, including Honorable Syed Rafat Ahmed of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, a country with a number of reforms in the IP arena. Elizabeth spoke on a panel regarding the importance of IP for startup companies.

Our partner Dr. Roberto Rios Herran was at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium from October 17th to 20th to teach in the program "Trade Policy: Understanding the Essentials of EU Trade Policy, WTO and the EU's Trade Agreements." Dr Rios Herran gave a series of lectures to public officials and industry representatives on the Basics of EU Trade Law, the EU-MERCOSUR Agreement. the GATS Agreement and Investment Disputes in CETAs.

Kelly Slater and Ed Sim successfully represented Appleton Luff client Come Best before the U.S. Department of Commerce in a countervailing (anti-subsidy) investigation on nails from Thailand. The investigation was terminated by reason of de minimis subsidies.

Elizabeth Chien-Hale was the Commencement Speaker for the 2022 graduating class of Lincoln Law School of San Jose. Elizabeth is a professor at Lincoln, which provides opportunities for non-traditional students--immigrants, adult students, minorities--to pursue a legal career.
