Practice Experience
Kelly A Slater has extensive experience advising international businesses with corporate structuring, governance, and operations issues in East and Southeast Asia, with a special emphasis on China.
Ms Slater has provided strategic advice to clients engaged in various cross-border transactions including the establishment of Foreign Investment Enterprises (FIEs); manufacturing, sales and distribution agreements; strategies for protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights; mergers and acquisitions; and licensing.
Ms Slater’s experience includes developing broad array of litigation and investment strategies for U.S. and Asian clients worldwide, duties undertaken while also playing a key role in the revitalization of the Shanghai office of a large, U.S. law firm in 2007 and 2008.
Ms Slater’s regulatory experience includes representing clients in antidumping/countervailing duty proceedings against China, Thailand, and Malaysia and in section 337 proceedings; advising on customs matters; and assisting in export control, FCPA, and antibribery compliance initiatives. In connection with these activities, Ms. Slater has represented clients before the Court of International Trade and U.S. District Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Ms Slater’s prior experience includes three years in Washington, DC, as an associate with White & Case LLP (a top American law firm); and another three years as an associate with Bryan Cave LLP in its Washington, DC, and Shanghai offices. Prior to law school, Kelly managed the import-export department of a Chinese-Hong Kong joint venture in Hangzhou, China.
