Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Chen GU worked twelve years as an engineer and two years as a patent analyst for Intel Corporation. He is a member of the Virginia Bar and practiced patent law in various law firms in the DC area, as well as having worked for a short stint as a patent examiner at the USPTO. He subsequently worked as in-house counsel for Western Digital, and then as a Senior IP Counsel for Tencent America, supporting US patent prosecution and management of a standard essential patent portfolio covering video coding technology. Chen then transitioned to Lime as Head of IP Legal, supporting all Lime's IP matters.
Chen has drafted and prosecuted over several hundred patent applications in electronic and software technologies for technology companies such as Apple, Intel, Panasonic, SAP, etc..
Chen teaches patent prosecution as an adjunct faculty at his alma mater, the McGeorge School of Law of the University of Pacific.
