Practice Experience

David Tichane has over 20 years of experience as in-house and outside counsel in intellectual property including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret related matters.  He has served as intellectual property and patent attorney at Tandem Computers and Sony Corporation of America, where his responsibilities included supervising patenting activities for emerging technology projects, drafting and prosecuting complex patent applications, supervising outside patent counsel, advising and lecturing engineering groups regarding technology law and export regulations, and participating in patent review committees.  David’s experience in private practice includes writing and prosecuting patents involving computer related technology, general physics, and mechanical devices.  He also has appellate experience and success before the US Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

His publications include law journal articles in copyright and trademark law.  In addition, he has published technical articles and symposium papers relating to computer science.

Before his admission to the patent bar, David was a software engineer as well as a senior systems analyst at Prime Computer and Tandem Computers.  At that time, he served as an adjunct instructor at the Pratt Institute’s graduate program in computer science, teaching courses in communications and networking as well as systems programming.  An inventor himself, he has been named on 4 issued patents.  His technical training includes extensive coursework in physics, mathematics, and computer science.
